Farm to Fork Fondo - Hudson Valley Returns in 2016 to Pennings Farm

WARWICK, NY – Wrenegade Sports and Pennings Farm are pleased to announce the details of the 2016 Farm to Fork Fondo – Hudson Valley. The second edition of the mass-participation cycling event will be hosted by Pennings Farm in Warwick, Orange County, New York, over the June 25-26, 2016, weekend, with 500 participants expected. The event will highlight and support the region's distinctive agriculture with locally-sourced pre and post-meals and mid-ride aid stations hosted by working farms.

The 2016 edition of the Farm to Fork Fondo – Hudson Valley will mark the debut for the Pennings Farm Cidery. Weekend activities will center around the new Dutch barn, including a farm-to-table 5-course dinner on Saturday June 25 in the Cidery Tasting Room. Weekend activities will also include: rides for all ages and abilities; live music; local and cycling industry vendors; farm tours; talks from specialists; and more. General admission is free and open to the public.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to projects at local farms and area farm organizations. In 2015 the Farm to Fork Fondo event organizer Wrenegade Sports donated more than $2,000 via the New Holland Volunteer Competition to The Sanctuary for Animals in Westtown, New York, the Orange County Land Trust, the expansion of the farmstand at Pierson Farm in Middletown, New York, and GoFundMe campaign for Rogowski Farm in Pine Island, New York.

“We're very excited to bring the Farm to Fork Fondo – Hudson Valley back to Orange County in 2016,” said Wrenegade Sports founder Tyler Wren. “The area's distinctive black dirt farmland, abundance of beautiful bucolic scenery and supportive and enthusiastic community comprise the perfect elements for a unique and exciting event that accomplishes our goal of motivating the cycling community to support their local farmers.”

“We're honored to partner up with Wrenegade Sports for this quality event that highlights what farming in the Hudson Valley is all about,” said Steve Pennings, owner of Pennings Farm.

“We are excited that the event will return to Orange County,” County Executive Steven Neuhaus said. “The inaugural Farm to Fork Fondo was well received by participants and the community, serving as a great opportunity to showcase Orange County’s agricultural community. The weekend provided the County with an economic boost and promoted the character of our region. Pennings Farm is a beautiful venue and I’m sure the 2016 event will be a success.”

2016 Farm to Fork Fondo series partners include New Holland Agriculture, Colavita USA, Bianchi Bicycles and the Colavita | Bianchi Professional Cycling Team.

Registration for the 2016 event is now open at www.FarmForkFondo.com.

About Pennings Farm

The Pennings family has a history deeply rooted in farming and agriculture. Jake Pennings began dairy and tulip farming with his 12 brothers and sisters in Holland. At age 18 he took his knowledge of farming and came to the United States where he built his dairy business with wife Johanna and 10 children. After the family sold the dairy farm in 1980 their son Jack Pennings went on to purchase the 100 acre Park Farm in the historic Hudson Valley town of Warwick, NY. Soon after he was joined by his brother Steve and they opened Pennings Orchard, a 25 acre orchard with u-pick apples, pumpkins, cut flowers, vegetables, and a small roadside stand. Since then the brothers have expanded the farm to over 50 acres of orchard and relocated the farm stand to its current location in 1989. Pennings Farm is now two separate operations working together with the same goal of supporting local farms and businesses while keeping the farming tradition alive. The Farm Market is run by Steve and Jill Pennings and their children Steve Jr and Tori, and the Orchard by Jack Jr. and Monica Pennings and their daughters Cameron and Kaelyn.
