Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal) sprints to victory on stage five

Daniel Cunego won the KOM points on the only classified climb and got the Blue Jersey at the end of te stage.

4 riders broke away and had 6.5 minutes.

Lotto Soudal took up the chase very early on and with 20km's to go, the 4 leaders only had 25 secs on the peleton.

Marcel Kittel was again, dropped for the bunch on the run in to the finish with aorund 10 km's to go.

The break was caught by the peleton on the start of finishing lap, with 6.5 kms to go. Andre Greipel launched his sprint early, with around 100m to go and had several bike lengths over Demare (FDJ), 2nd and Colbrelli (BAR) 3rd.

Andre Greipel commented "I had good legs today and the team worked well not only to chase down the break but to keep me at the front for the final sprint".

Tom Dumoulin commented "Tomorrow's Stage 6 is much hillier, the finish is not too hard, so I'm expecting not to loose too much time."

Tomorrow's stage is 157 kms with two second category climbs with an uphill finish, the last 15 kms uphill to finish at Roccaraso.
