Contador pulls out of the Tour de France Due to a Fever

Two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador has quit the 2016 race with illness. Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) pulled out of the Tour de France on today's 9th stage on 10th July to Andorra with 100km to go.

Spain's Contador - who crashed twice in the opening two stages - abandoned during the ninth stage on Sunday.

The 2007 and 2009 winner, riding for Russian team Tinkoff, had been suffering from a fever and got off his bike with around 104km left of the stage.

He started the day more than three minutes behind leader Chris Froome.

Mark Renshaw (Dimension Data), Cedric Pineau (FDJ), Matthieu Ladagnous (Tinkoff)  also pulled out on the tough stage.
