500 Riders Complete Inaugural Bluewater Gran Fondo

Ride sold out in advance as Gran Fondo's see increasing growth across North America

August 1st 2016, Sarnia, Ontario - Organizers of the Bluewater Gran Fondo put on weekly evening rides to encourage newcomers to ride their Gran Fondo. In fact 220 of the 500 cyclists who took part rode the 50K (31 miles) Piccolo Fondo course. 178 rode the Medio Fondo 100k (62 miles) and the remaining the Gran Fondo 150K (93 miles).

Riders celebrated after the ride with an after party. All participants who completed the course earn a Bluewater Gran Fondo medal, that doubled as a bottle opener.

Ken MacAlpine, lead organizer commented "A BIG thank you to all riders for making the 1st BIGF an overwhelming success ... it was awsome to see so many enthustic riders enjoying the days events and also thank you to Refined Fool Brewing Company - Offsite Impact Band and Petrolia Lions Club for adding to the afterevent party"

The event is expected to grow many times its inaugural size in the coming years as amateur cycling and organized cycling events like Gran Fondo's see increased growth.
