Chaves leads Orica-BikeExchange at the Vuelta a Espana

The ORICA-BikeEchange team is heading to the Vuelta a España to support Estaban Chaves’ bid for the general classification. The Colombian took second overall at this year’s Giro d’Italia, along with a stage win

“We are heading into the Vuelta a Espana with one very clear objective,” said team director Matt Stephens. “And that is to achieve the best possible general classification result that we can. Of course, as always this will be a very difficult race and we will have to pay close attention to a very strong field of competitors. We have only the upmost respect for the race and the other teams."

“Esteban (Chaves) has proven with his performances over the last year that he deserves to be the leader of the team for the 2016 Vuelta and we are all super motivated to do all we can to support him.”

24-year-old Simon Yates will support Chaves in the high mountains and is on good form, with his first professional victory at the Clasica Ordizia and fourth overall at the Vuelta a Burgos. Damien Howson and 22-year-old Jack Haig, riding in his first Grand Tour, will also be key in the mountains. Simon Gerrans returns to racing after breaking his collarbone in the Tour de France.

Orica-BikeExchange line up for Vuelta: Sam Bewley, Esteban Chaves, Magnus Cort, Simon Gerrans, Jack Haig, Damien Howson, Jens Keukeleire, Svein Tuft, Simon Yates
