Fabian Cancellara puts on the Pounds after Retiring from Bike Racing

Swiss Ex-Pro rider Fabian Cancellara is already feeling the changes having retired at the end of the season

Cancellara's final race was at an exhibition in the Ghent Kuipke Velodrome but he already feels that his condition is not the same and that his body changed quickly after stopping the heavy training.

"I've already added more than five or six kilos since the Games in Rio," said Spartacus to the Belgian Newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

"It is scary when you feel that you're getting fatter. I would like to still be a bit fit. Not that I should be as sharp as Sven Nys, but I have to keep an eye on it anyway. Once you're no longer a sportsman, the kilos come very quickly."

Cancellara positioned himself as a good rider for time trials and one-day races, which is reflected in his multiple victories in Paris-Roubaix, Milan-San Remo, the Tour de Flanders, the World Championships and his two gold medals of the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016.

But life as a retired cyclist is not as slow as one may think. "Since Rio, I have been busy with 1001 things. Sponsorship activities, bike shows, galas. It does not stop. I take things on as they come to me. I suspect I'll be less busy in a few weeks and then I can really make plans."

Cancellara is looking forward to the moment all these activities stop and he can take some time to think about the days to come and what he will do. "I can already rely on my experience as a rider, but I still want to study a few subjects. Sports marketing fascinates me, I want to learn more about it. First of all, of course, I want to spend more time with my family, my friends."
