Tom Dumoulin puts out invite to join him on training ride and accidentally creates a Gran Fondo
Last week, Tom Dumoulin put out a Facebook invite for people to join him on a training ride, expecting a few to join him on a Sunday morning ride through the Dutch hills
He expected few people to be interested as it was freezing and participants were expected to just to keep up with one of the worlds best best time-trialers of 2016.
Tom Dumoulin said "I will organize an open workout in the Limburg hills for enthusiasts. We gather at 11:00 in Maastricht. Everyone is welcome, just keep in mind that your group to be able to keep," he wrote on Facebook .
He just did not expect that there would be so many enthusiasts. There were more than 250. The vast group started together on the journey of about 60 kilometers and held a speed of 28 kilometers per hour.
The group then split and around sixty cyclists kept up with Dumoulin through the hills and over the finish line.
The Limburg Police were initially quite worried at the start. "At the start it was a little busier than expected, we did not have enough policemen at the start," a spokesperson for the Limburg police commented.
The experience was a great sucess allowing riders to come together and ride with Tom.
Wow! 11 am, -1 degrees and a peloton as long as the eye can see. Cycling is alive and kicking! Thank you and until next time! pic.twitter.com/XZ58vlYu8k— Tom Dumoulin (@tom_dumoulin) December 4, 2016
