Grivko suspended for hitting Marcel Kittel
Kittel was left with a deep cut and bloody face after altercation midway through Stage 3 of the Dubai Tour. Andrei Grivko now suspended for 45 days.
Quick-Step Floors team manager Patrick Lefevere stated that Kittel was “beaten by an Astana rider” on the chaotic stage 3 of the Dubai Tour on January 2nd 2017. Kittel was seen looking very distressed at the back of the peloton, clearly unhappy, making gestures to the race officials that he had been elbowed in the face.
After the stage Andrei Grivko from Astana was subsequently disqualified from race.
It isn't the first time Astana have been acccused of causing a dispute that lead to violence in the peloton, in 2015 Dmitry Gruzdev reportly started a braul mid way through a stage.
Aussie ex-Pro cyclist Robbie McEwen tweeted afer the incident "Grivko fancies himself as a fighter. He hit me once during a stage at Eneco Tour about 10 yrs ago."
Today the UCI have issued a press release suspending him for 45 days from May 1 to June 14, which will seriously hamper Andrei Grivko's racing schedule.
