200 Extra Places Made Available For Sold Out Dragon Ride L’Étape Wales

Cyclists who were unsuccessful in securing a place at this year’s sold out Dragon Ride L’Étape Wales by Le Tour de France will have a second chance to be part of the famous sportive when a final batch of 200 entries go on sale Tuesday 23 May

Organisers, Human Race – the U.K. arm of Le Tour de France owners, A.S.O. – have been able to release extra places for the event on Sunday 11 June 2017, giving as many people as possible the chance to experience this legendary ride.

The 200 places will be available across the four distances on offer at Dragon Ride L’Etape Wales, with cyclists able to choose between the Dragon Devil (305 km), Gran Fondo (230 km), Medio Fondo (153 km) and Macmillan 100 (100 km). All four rides start and finish at Margam Park, Port Talbot and take in the stunning climbs of the surrounding countryside. All riders are encouraged to use the challenging ride to fundraise for official charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

After thousands of entries were sold in the two days following the opening of registrations last September, demand for the final places is expected to be exceptionally high. Once the extra entries have been sold, the only way to take part on the Sunday will be via entry to the Dragon Tour which offers a two or three-day multi-stage ride beginning on either Friday 9 June or Saturday 10 June, and culminating in Dragon Ride L’Etape Wales by Le Tour de France itself.

Those lucky enough to secure a place at this official Le Tour de France sportive will ride the sweeping, alpine-like climbs of the Brecon Beacons, whilst enjoying full moto marshalling, Le Tour de France signage, electronic chip timing and, if things don’t go quite to plan – the voiture balai (broom wagon). Didi Senft, the ‘red devil’ famous for his energetic support at the roadside of Le Tour de France’ will send participants off at the start, cheer them on as they ascend the Devil’s Elbow climb, before joining in with the celebrations and a cold drink or two at the finish line.

Entrants to Dragon Ride L’Étape Wales by Le Tour de France will also enjoy live, big-screen coverage of Stage 8 of the Critérium du Dauphiné in the event village, alongside 360° virtual reality Le Tour de France immersion, the Le Tour de France podium and a Le Tour de France exhibition featuring a number of famous objects from the race’s history.

The final 200 entries to the 2017 Dragon Ride L’Étape Wales by Le Tour de France will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 10am on Tuesday 23 May at www.letapeuk.com.
