2018 Giro d'Italia may return to the brutal Monte Zoncolan

After a three-year absence, the Monte Zoncolan might make a return to the Giro d'Italia next year

Reported by Italian newspaper Messaggero Venetto, and often reffered to as one of the hardest climbs in Italy, the Mont Zoncolan will be climbed from the Ovaro iside n a stage that will include 4,000m of climbing.

The torturous climb has an average gradient of 12% for 10km, but with gut-wrenching sections of gradients in excess of 15%.

Messaggero Ventto reported that the stage featuring the Zoncolan is probably May,19th, the second weekend of racing.

So far all that has been confirmed is the grande partenza in Israel. The race kicking off with a short 10.1km individual time trial around Jerusalem, followed by two more stages in Israel from Haifa to Tel Aviv and Be'er Sheva to Eilat.

Race organisers RCS are set to announce the entire route of the 2018 Giro d'Italia next month in Milan.
