Caleb Ewan wins Australian Criterium Championship

Australian sprint ace Caleb Ewan won his third-straight criterium title at the Australian road cycling championships

Ewan outsprinted former winner Steele Von Hoff with Brenton Jones third in Ballarat.

Surrounded by his teammates, including Luke Durbridge who controlled much of the race, with Lucas Hamilton, Cameron Meyer and Alex Edmondson taking Ewan to the front of the race to Sprint across the finish line without any real competition.

"It's good to start the season with success, especially as the feeling of victory never gets old" said Caleb Ewan.

The nationals run until Sunday, when the showpiece elite men’s and women’s road races will be held at Buninyong, near Ballarat.

Mitchelton-Scott, the new name for the GreenEDGE team, will have fierce competition in the men’s road race on Sunday around Buninyong (185,6 kms). BMC boast defending champion Miles Scotson, as well as Tour de France star Richie Porte, South Australian Rohan Dennis and recruit Simon Gerrans, also a veteran Tour de France rider.

The Michelton-Scott sprinter will then participate in the Tour Down Under where he is aiming for a stage victory. Last year, he raised his arms four times.
