United States | Midwest | Ohio >> Third Annual NYC Bike Expo nearly sold out of vendor space

Among the world’s largest consumer road cycling expos, NYC Bike Expo added more vendor booth space and expects a 20% increase in visitors

In its third year, New York City Bike Expo, the 2-day pre-race expo of Gran Fondo New York, is getting ready for its biggest exhibition yet, on May 17-18, 2013. The expo is the location for mandatory packet pickup for all 7,000 Gran Fondo New York participants, and it is also open to the public and free admission. It is centrally located across from Madison Square Garden, on 33rd Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan. In May 2012, the expo hosted 48 vendors and 15,000 visitors over two days.

Gran Fondo New York is a 110-mile (177-km) race for amateur cyclists in and around New York City. With various competition categories, a challenging course and the most international participant field of any cycling event in the world, Gran Fondo New York and its pre-race NYC Bike Expo attract passionate cyclists and fans of cycling alike. The expo offers the unique opportunity to present products and services to cyclists from over 70 countries who are visiting New York City to race Gran Fondo New York, and to over 14,000 local cyclists and cycling fans.

Campagnolo, Pinarello, Mavic, Elite, PowerBar, ParagonSports, T Edward Wines, Strava, Fulcrum and DuVine Adventures are among the companies that exhibited at New York City Bike Expo in 2012 and are coming back in 2013.  Campagnolo’s Dan Large stated, “New York City Bike Expo is the best consumer show we’ve ever been to. The expo provided us the ability to interact with the target demographic of Campagnolo. We’ll be back at the expo for many years to come.” Among new vendors at the expo are Biemme Sport, Kask, and FreeMotion Fitness.

Gran Fondo New York organizers sought out Penn Pavilion, a 40,000 square foot facility in the heart of New York City, as the location for the New York City Bike Expo due to its size and location. Conveniently located to all major NYC subway lines, Pennsylvania Station, Grand Central Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the expo is accessible from anywhere in the tri-state area.

“Gran Fondo New York participants are dedicated to the sport of road cycling and ride thousands of miles annually, year after year. Similar to NYC Marathon runners, Gran Fondo New York cyclists are endurance athletes who want to test and prove themselves on the world’s biggest stage. 80% of GFNY participants are male, the majority are 30-55 years old, and they are successful professionals in their fields and seek challenges in their personal lives. This kind of demographic appeals to a wide range of cycling companies, but it also attracts companies from other industries like finance, wine, gourmet food and consumer products,” said Lidia Fluhme, one of the founders of Gran Fondo New York and the New York City Bike Expo.

The previous NYC Bike Expo sold out in March, two and a half months before the exhibition. A modified floor plan allowed the organizers to accommodate more vendors for the 2013 edition, however due to high demand, the expo is on track to sell out soon. The success of the expo is driving Gran Fondo New York organizers to consider seeking a bigger expo space for the 2014 edition of New York City Bike Expo.
