Tour of California Announces Competition to Create Original Artwork

LOS ANGELES (April 21, 2015) - Fans, artists and cyclists are being recruited by AEG, the presenter of the Amgen Tour of California, the nation's largest and most prestigious professional cycling race, to create and submit original artwork for the 2016 Amgen Breakaway from Cancer(r) Fashion Design Contest.

From now until May 4, 2016, original artwork submissions will be accepted online at amgentourofcalifornia.com/designcontest. The winning artwork will be used as the design for a Breakaway from Cancer-inspired kaftan (tunic top) that is part of Bold and the Beautiful actress Katherine Kelly Lang's collection. The Breakaway from Cancer kaftan will be available for sale on the daytime television star's website,  A portion of the profits from the sale of each kaftan will go to Breakaway From Cancer's four nonprofit partner organizations.

Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer is a national initiative to increase awareness of important resources available to people affected by cancer - from prevention through survivorship.

Having lost her father to colon cancer, Lang, an ambassador for Breakaway from Cancer, understands the struggles that cancer patients and their families face, and is dedicated to helping the many people fighting cancer who don't know where to turn for assistance.

"My love for fashion started at an early age, and I am honored to put that passion to work for such a worthy cause," said Katherine Kelly Lang. "I hope designers and graphic artists from across the country enter this contest in recognition of the courage and strength needed by those facing one of life's most difficult challenges."

One grand prize package will be awarded to the person who designs the winning artwork. The prize package includes $1000 cash and trip for the winner and one guest to the final day of the 2016 Amgen Tour of California in Sacramento on May 22, 2016. The prize package also a meet and greet with Katherine Kelly Lang and round trip airfare, hotel accommodations and VIP Hospitality Passes.

The winning submission will be determined by the following criteria: creativity (50 percent), use of Breakaway from Cancer colors and elements (25 percent), and choice of theme (25 percent). A panel of judges will review all eligible entries. Official contest rules can be found at amgentourofcalifornia.com/designcontest.
