Silvan Dillier claims his first Grand Tour stage win

BMC Racing's Silvan Dillier out sprinted Trek Segafredo's Jasper Stuyven from the day's 217 km breakaway of five riders

Following an extremely fast start Pöstlberger, Pedersen and Stuyven broke away from the Peloton, to be joined by Andreetta and Dillier to establish the day's breakaway of five riders. 

Their gap opened up to nearly 9 minutes before the peloton started to chase. The gaps started to come doen.

Pedersen was dropped from the breakaway on the climb of Fuscaldo-climb with 23 kms to go, only to get back on aftera afterwards.

With 20 kms to go the breakaway still had a 3 minute advantage and looked as if they wouldn't get caught by the peloton.

The peloton gave up the chase and Stuyven was the first to attack, but Pöstlberger and Dillier responded.

On the final climb before the line Dillier accelerated with 200 kms to go and only Stuyven could follow.

Stuyven and Dillier started to sprint but Stuyven just coudn't come round and Dillier won by half a bike length on the line.

Bob Jungels finished safely in the main field to hold onto the Maglia Rosa, the Pink Jersey for another day.
