Fans Mock Tom Dumoulin with Toilet Rolls
Fans dub race leader "Toilet Tom" and wave toilet rolls at him after two stopping at the side of the road for two nature breaks
SunWeb's race leader has had his share of bad luck recently. On the Queen stage 16 he was forced to stop at the side of the road to take a nature break and lost nearly a minute and fought hard on the descent into Bormio to make up the time.
Then yesterday on Stage 19 it was rumoured that Tom had pulled over again for a nature break.Suddenly Movistar and Bahrain-Merida put the hammer down and opened up a split in the Peloton. Dumoulin spent a anxious time chasing down the front of the peloton with those affected by the split which grew to 58 seconds.
Eventually they caught the front of the race and Movistar and Bahrain-Merida slowed and the peloton took on a more peaceful outlook, letting another breakaway get established. It wasn't until the final climb that the racing really began again in the fight for pink.
These reports were untrue, Tom Dumoulin said after stage 19, "I made a rookie mistake leaving a gap on one of the early descents. But on the final climb I just didn't have the legs and just tried limit my loses. It's not over yet"
On the road side fans took advantage of the new controversy and waved toilet rolls at him.
