Koen Bouwman beats Sprinters from Breakaway
Dutchman Koen Bouwman (LottoNL-Jumbo) won the 3rd stage of the Dauphiné Libéré to Tullins. Thomas de Gendt retains the leader's jersey
The Dutchman Koen Bouwman (LottoNL-Jumbo) outsprinted his breakaway companions after the 184 kilometers between Chambon-sur-Lignon and Tullins (Isère).
From the start of the stage, a group of six riders broke away. Bouwman and Vermeulen (Lotto-Jumbo), Nauleau (Direct Énergie), Backaert (Wanty), Pacher and Siskevicius (Delko Marseille) rode all day building up a maximum lead over 6 minutes.
Despite a hard work from the Katusha and FDJ team, aiming for the stage victory for their respective sprinters Alexander Kristoff and Arnaud Démarre, the breakaway held on until the finish, working well together up until the final kilometres to stay clear of the chaing Peloton.
23-year-old Koen Bouwman, out sprinted his breakway companions and team mate Vermeulen to take the stage win.
The charging pelton, within site of the line and the breakawy, only 11 seconds behind, Arnaud Demare outsprinted Bryan Coquard
In the overall standings, Thomas De Gendt, who finished in the peloton, retains his yellow leaders jersey.
Wednesday's 4th stage is an individual time trial of 23.5 kilometers between La Tour-du-Pin and Bourgion Jalieu which could see some changes in the overall general classification.
