Simon Spilak takes stage 7 victory and yellow jersey

The Katusha-Alpecin rider soloed up one of Europe's highest climbs the Tiefenbachferner at 2,780m high ahead of Ion Izagirre and Joe Dombrowski

The seventh stage of the Tour de Suisse was 161 kilometers long that finished on the HC climb of the Tiefenbachferner at 2,780m high.

18 riders established the day's breakaway that included Jhonatan Restrepo (Katusha Alpecin), David de la Cruz (Quick-Step Floors), Michael Matthews (Sunweb), Tim Wellens (Lotto-Soudal), Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe), and Jonathan Dibben (Sky).

They got a maximum lead of three minutes over the peloton.

On the only climb of the day, riders starting dropping one by one, Matthias Frank and leader Domenico Pozzovivo (AG2R-La Mondiale) were dropped.

Rein Taaramae (Katusha-Alpecin) set the pace to took leader Simon Spilak ahead of all his main rivals. USA' Cannondale-Drapac's Joe Dombrowski managed to follow.

With 8 kilometers to go, Spilak was alone with Steven Kruijswijk (LottoNL-Jumbo), Ion Izagirre (Bahrain-Merida) and Dombrowski chasing.

Spilak fnished ahead of Izagirre 22 secs and Dombrowski at 36 secs.

Caruso and Kruijswijk finished around 1m 4secs behind

Rein Taaramae lost 1m 32s and finished in seventh place

Pozzovivo arrived over 2m 40s' down on the Slovenian.

Spilak took the stage win and the yellow jersey with just two stages to go.
