Froome matches Anquetil's record

Chris Froome wore the Tour de France yellow jersey for the 50th time

Chris Froome started the morning wearing the yellow jersey of the Tour de France for the 50th time, equaling with the Frenchman Jacques Anquetil, something he called "an immense honor".

"If I can keep it to the end it will be something formidable, equaling with Anquetil is already an immense honor," said Team Sky's leader after crossing the Bergerac finish on the tenth stage.

He would have only two other five-time French champions Bernard Hinault, who showed 75 times, and Belgian Eddy Merckx, 96.

Froome, who is aiming to win his fourth Tour, the third in a row.

But Froome was cautious and assured that the Tour is not yet over. The Briton pointed to three main rivals, the Italian Fabio Aru, the Frenchman Romain Bardet and the Colombian Rigoberto Urán.

"Uran has made a great race and I will consider him a threat to the yellow jersey, so if he attacks I won't leave him any room," said Froome, who summed up the threat of the Cannondale cyclist to the same level as Aru or Bardet.

He did not mention Colombian rider Nairo Quintana or Spanish rider Alberto Contador.

I won't watch Contador so closely "He's had a difficult Tour, he's lagging behind in the general classification, I'm not going to jump after him right away, we know his style, he's not shy in his attacks from far away"

"I wouldn't be surprised if he attacked from a longer distance on Sunday because it's a shorter stage, but I won't let him get too close to the general classification," he said.

Froome said he had clarified possible misunderstandings with Fabio Aru after last Sunday's stage and said he would watch him and Bardet closely, expecting attacks on the descents.
