Frenchmen Warren Barguil wins on Bastille Day
Warren Barguil (Sunweb) won from the breakaway on the brutal 13th stage, Fabio Aru responded to all attacks and Mikel Landa moved to fifth overall
Aru remains 6 seconds ahead Froome and 25 seconds ahead of Bardet in the GC, but Landa is now 5th overall at 1m 9s and Quintana is now 2m 7s down on Aru.
The start of the stage was brutal, from the start the attacks came.
De Marchi, Gilbert and Chavanel established a breakaway. De Marchi (BMC) went away solo after 28km on the Col de Latrape.
Warren Barguil attacked looking for more KOM points.
Contador attacked looking for the stage win, over 5 minutes down on the GC, Team Sky sent Mikel Landa up the road with him. They joined Warren Barguil and crested the Col de Latrape.
The pace in the main peloton was brutal, Pierre Rolland and Jacob Fuglsang were the first big favorites to be dropped.
The Yellow Jersey group was down to around 20 riders. Froome, Uran, Yates, Martin, Bardet and Aru were all in this group.
Quintana attacked from the main peloton with Betancur, Vuillermoz and Barguil and Michal Kwiatkowski from Team Sky followed the move.
Contador and Landa took the lead and crested the Col de Agnes 30 seconds ahead of the Quintana group and 2m 40s ahead of the Yellow Jersey group.
AG2R and Astana were collaborating out on the road, with Fabio Aru in yellow and Bardet in third place only 25 seconds behind.
On the downhill of the Col d'Agnes, Romain Bardet and Chris Froome sped up to reduce their deficit to the two leaders while Quintana, Barguil and Kwiatkowski were only ten seconds behind Contador and Landa.
On the Col de Péguère climb Contador and Mikel Landa (Team Sky), Kwiatkowski and Barguil led with the further reduced Yellow Jersey group of of Aru, Bardet, Froome, Uran, Yates, Martin and Meintjes are 2m 22s behind.
The Yellow jersey group had been attacking each other, but were all together; Aru, Bardet, Froome, Uran, Yates, Martin and Meintjes.
With 17kms to go, Contador, Landa, Kwiatkowski and Barguil still led by 1m 52 secs.
Alberto Contador was awarded the most aggressive rider of the day.
Dan Martin managed to escape ahead of the Yellow Jersey group..
At they chased the lead group, it looked likely that Fabio Aru would just hang onto the Yellow Jersey.
1 km to go for Contador, Barguil Landa, Kwiatkowski and Barguil went round Contador to take the sprint.
Aru finished 1 m 47 secs down on Barguil and retained the Yellow Jersey.
Team Sky's Mikel Landa moved up to 4th on GC and said "I didn't try to win the stage, I was there for the team, the objective is to try to win the Tour de France, I don't think I'm stronger than Chris Froome. He has won the Tour three times" The Spaniard confessed the thought of getting a Yellow Jersey crossed his mind "I thought about it, but I always knew it was going to be very difficult."
