Michael Matthews to take part in RideLondon-Surrey Classic
Tour de France Green Jersey winner Michael Matthews is set to start at the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic. The race will take place on July 30th
The Australian will be the first Green Jersey winner to participate in this race which forms part of the UCI WorldTour Calendar. "Prudential RideLondon is a race that I am looking forward to, the crowds are always incredible which makes for a great racing atmosphere," said the rider.
"There's a lot going on with various other events on the same day so there's always a great turn out and that extra bit of encouragement at the side of the road makes all the difference."
Mick Bennett, Race Director of the race confirmed that Team Sky will also take part in the event. "Team Sky will be coming back to Britain still on a high after winning yet another Tour de France and with Michael Matthews racing it means, for the first time ever, the Classic will have the Tour’s Green Jersey winner among its starters. I can’t wait for the race now, it’s going to be spectacular," Matthews commented.
Team Sky's Luke Rowe has also confirmed his participation. He and Matthews will join riders like Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal), Ben Swift (UAE-Team Emirates), Mathew Hayman (Orica-Scott), Elia Viviani (Sky), Jasper Stuiven (Trek-Segafredo) and Sep Vanmarcke (Cannondale-Drapac).
The start list of the race will be confirmed later this week.
