Travis McCabe wins stage and Rob Britton retains Yellow

Travis McCabe of UnitedHealthCare Pro Cycling Team has won the fifth stage of the 2017 Tour of Utah while Rob Britton retains the yellow jersey

The fifth of seven stages finished in Bountiful after 115 miles on Friday.

There were numerous breakaways throughout the stage with only 20 riders staying in contention including the GC favorites.

Team Hincapie's Rob Carpenter suffered a terrible crash, one that saw him borrow a helmet from a cycling fan at the roadside which resulted in Carpenter having to chase back on, over 10 miles.

The finale came down to a bunch sprint and McCabe launched a powerful effort to cross the line ahead of Marco Canola of Nippo - Vini Fantini and Axeon's Michael Rice.

Not only did Carpenter make it back into the peloton, he finished the stage in fourth.

No real change in the GC as Rob Britton of Rally Cycling retains the yellow jersey with a slim margin of 26 seconds ahead of his closest rival Gavin Mannion.

Tomorrow's Queen Stage on Saturday August 5th is a brutal 61 miles with over 7,500 feet of climbing from Heber City to the Snowbird Resort summit.

Don't miss the stage as it could be the decider for the overall winner.
