Alex Howes wins second stage at the Velorama Colorado Classic

Alex Howes from Cannondale-Drapac out sprinted TJ Eisenhart from Holowesko | Citadel p/b Hincapie Sports ahead of Peter Stetina from Trek-Segafredo

The second stage of the Colorado Classic was 64 miles around Breckenridge and featured several climbs including Moonstone.

A breakaway of three riders; TJ Eisenhart (Team Hincapie), Daniel Eaton (UnitedHealthcare), and Logan Owen (Axeon Hagens Berman) went away

But a chase group of  12 riders caught them, and new attacks followed.

But it was Holowesko's TJ Eisenhart who attacked again a gap of more than two minutes.

Behind, riders including Kiel Reijnen (Trek-Segafredo), Travis McCabe (UnitedHealthcare) and Manuel Senni (BMC) tried to reel him back in.

Peter Stetina (Trek-Segafredo) kicked on the final ascent of Moonstaone and only Alex Howes (Cannondale-Drapac) could follow.

They caught Eisenhart just before the top of the climb. where by Eisenhart attacked again onj the descent.

Only Howes, could follow while Stetina dropped behind.

The final sprint was between the two men and Howes was the the strongest, crossing the line just ahead of Eisenhart.

Although Howes won the stage, Eisenhart took the race lead and most aggressive rider award.

Stage three will be contested on an 81-mile (130 km) out-and-back course that runs from the RiNo race hub to the mountains west of Denver on the Peak to Peak Highway, and then returns to the Mile High City through scenic Golden Gate Canyon State Park and via what is expected to be a finishing sprint through the streets of Denver, with speeds approaching 60 mph.
