Yves Lampaert (Quick-Step) wins stage two of the Vuelta a España

Yves Lampaert and Matteo Trentin one-two for Quick-Step Floors on Stage 2 Sprint Finish. Yves Lampaert takes the race leader's Red jersey.

A day without a breakaway, it was pretty hot 29C, with a strong, but cooling wind - started to affect the peloton with strong cross winds made for some nervous riding.

Trek-Segafredo put the pressure with 75 kms to go and nrealy split the peloton which managed to stay together.

However, at a narrowing in the the road, a crash occured, one that involved a dozen riders. El Abia broke his collarbone and Moreno looks to have sustained facial injuires.

In the final kilometres, the sprinter's team picked up the pace and splits occured.

Quick-Step Floors really pushed the pace, and with the splits, it was an unorganized affair.

Around the final bends, Yves Lampaert got a gap and pushed on with 200 metres to go.

He managed to hang on and crossed the line ahead of a small chasing bunch  and it was team-mate Matteo Trentin that took second place.

Tomorrow is a difficult day in the mountains.

Stage 3 on Monday August 21 2017 from Prades Canigó to Andorra la Vellao is 159 km Mountain stage, with two first category and one final 2nd category climb, coming with just 7 kms to go to the finish line.

A breakaway could succeed or it could come down to a battle on the final climbs with 50 kms to go.

It will be an important day for the GC hopefuls, the last 50 kms could see some real animated racing.
