Warren Barguil booted off the Vuelta
Team Sunweb have decided to withdraw Warren Barguil (FRA) from the Vuelta a España
The 25-year-old talented rider, recent winner of two stages and the mountain jersey at the Tour de France, openly expressed that he didn't race to the team's goal, which left Team Sunweb with no other option than to take this decision.
The move is highly unusual, particularly given that Barguil was the highest-placed Sunweb rider in the Vuelta’s general classification, in 13th place was one minute and 43 seconds behind leader Chris Froome (Team Sky). Barguil also lied one place and two seconds ahead of nominated Sunweb's leader Wilco Kelderman
Frenchman Warren Barguil won two stages in this year's Tour de France, a four-up sprint finish on stage thirteen on Bastille Day and the Col d'Izoard mountain top finish.
Barguil said: "I feel very well and have good legs. I see myself in different a role and am eager to attack in the mountains, as I did in the Tour. The Vuelta is a great race and it is disappointing to leave."
After the Vuelta, Barguil will pick up his planned race program.
