Matteo Trentin wins stage 10 as Nicolas Roche gains time

Italian Matteo Trentin (Quick-Step Floors) won the tenth stage of the Vuelta a Espana, outsprinting  Movistar's Jose Joaquin Rojas from the breakaway

The tenth stage was a transition stage after the first rest day, riders rode 165 kms through the Murcia region, that featured one climb of the third and one first category climb.

The day started with rain and several attacks that were all nuetralized, after 90 kilometres a breakaway of 20 riders was  established, including Green Jersey holder Matteo Trentin from Quick-Step Floors.

The breakaway created a gap five minutes over the peloton that was controlled by Team Sky and Bahrain-Merida who wanted to set a good pace for Vincenzo Nibali. The Italian wanted to take advantage of a descent that suited him.

As expected, the Shark attacked, from the main peloton, Esteban Chaves (Orica-Scott) tried to stay in his wheel but was dropped.

In the breakaway Jaime Roson (Caja Rural), Jose Joaquin Rojas (Movistar), Mattteo Trentin and Jacques Janse Van Rensburg (Dimension Data), attacked and created a gap on the rest of their breakaway companions.

With 10 kms ot go, Nicolas Roche (BMC) caught Vincenzo Nibali. The rest of the favourites' group and continued descending down the mountain.

In front, Trentin and Rojas dropped both Van Rensburg and Roson with around 7 kms to go.

Rojas was the first to launch his sprint, but Trentin came around, the clear favorite to win the 2 up final sprint.

Nicolas Roche put in a high paced descent and finished 29 seconds ahead of the other GC favorites.

The BMC rider is still in third place with the same time as Esteban Chaves, both trailing Froome by 36 seconds.
