Ghent-Wevelgem Cyclo takes place March 24
Fight against the relentless wind and notorious hills of Flanders’ Fields
Ghent-Wevelgem Cyclo is a well-known name among cycling enthusiasts in Belgium and abroad. This WorldTour classic in Flanders’ Fields is an absolute must-do for true cycling fans. Prepare to suffer on the famous Kemmelberg, fight against the relentless wind in De Moeren and make your way through the semi-paved Plugstreets. At the end the finish awaits on the Vanackerestraat, one day before we find out who will succeed Greg van Avermaet.
Plugstreets Back In The Course
Participants can choose between four distances: 60 km, 91 km, 136 km and 215 km. The 60 km course is an impressive ride through history past many military cemeteries and memorials. The Menin Gate in Ypres is the absolute highlight. Those who choose for the 91 km tour will also get to conquer the notorious Kemmelberg in addition to all the attractions of the Ypres region.
That is also the case for participants on the 136 km course and the full 215 km distance. They will face some additional climbs, including the Mont des Cats and the Zwarteberg, as well as the infamous Plugstreets, a recent addition to the pro race. No matter which distance the participants choose, the final kilometres will run on the banks of the Leie.
