Rafal Majka Starts Season at the Vuelta A San Juan
Bora-Hansgrohe’s rider, Rafal Majka, has decided to start his 2018 season with the Vuelta a San Juan, January 21 - 28
The Polish champion is currently preparing himself for the new South American challenge as he continues to be an important component for the German team on his second season as part of the family.
“I like Argentina and its people,” Majka said. “Races like the Tour de San Luis and the Vuelta a San Juan are a good opportunity to escape the European winter and enjoy the warmer weather of Argentina. It is very nice to ride in the warmth when my country Poland is all covered in snow.”
The Tour de Pologne and Tour of Slovenia winner and also the three-stage champion at the Tour de France, strongly believes that the Vuelta a San Juan will be the perfect way for him to start the new season. He has also claimed that he doesn’t intend to win the race but to have fun and have a good start of the year.
“It will be too soon to be in form. Even though that doesn’t mean that I won’t give my all because I’m a professional sportsman that always gives everything,” he added.
“If I could get the victory I would of course welcome it. But it isn’t my main objective. Even though I can see that the race has an interesting course and a great participation.”
So far, the rest of the rider’s 2018 calendar is unclear.
Podium Spot at the 2018 Tour de France
However, the champion already knows which event will take his main focus this season. “We are still deciding on the calendar. But the Tour de France will again be my main goal,” said Majka.
“I think to try for the podium is a realistic objective. The rest of the calendar will be decided based on the global goals of the team and the sponsors. I will adapt the races to the objective of arriving in the best form to the Tour.”
