Trek's Ryan Mullen wins Time Trial as Filippo Ganna grabs overall

Irishman Ryan Mullen (Trek-Segafredo) has won the individual time trial on Stage 3 of the Tour of San Juan, Italian Filippo Ganna is the new overall leader

The ring road around San Juan formed the setting for the individual time trial on Stage 3. It turned out to be terrain on which Irishman Ryan Mullen managed to excel. He raced in his Irish champion jersey to a time of 17m 43s,an average speed of 48.7 kilometers per hour.

Race leader Costa Rican Román Villalobos, who was victorious on stage 2 to Peri Lago Punta Negra, was nowhere near as fast as Filippo Ganna. The Italian from UAE Team Emirates was only ten seconds behind the México Canel's Specialized rider before the start of the time trial.

The time set by the Irishman was unbeatable and the men fighting for the General Classification set a goal of getting a good time. The standings of the time trial changed the entire overall classification.

Filippo Ganna (UAE Team Emirates) climbed to the first position of the GC,  followed by Rafal Majka (Bora-hansgrohe) and Oscar Sevilla (Medellin-Inder), the top three in the overall classification.

Tomorrow's Stage 4 before for the rest day is a 182.8 kilometers between San José Jachal Villa San Agustín and that includes two first category climbs and one of the third category a stage that will suit second placed Rafal Majka from (Bora-hansgrohe).
