Maximilian Schachmann wins stage 6 as Valverde retains lead on the penultimate stage

Quick-Step Floors' Maximilian Schachmann won the sixth stage outsprinting breakaway companion Diego Rubio on the line

The sixth stage of the Spanish race was shortened due to snow and fog and the orginal finish line in Torrefarrera.

Maximilian Schachmann (Quick-Step Floors) and Diego Rubio (Burgos BH) setablished the day's breakaway and created a maximum lead of 3 minutes.

With 25 kilometres remaining, the strong wind caused split the peloton, creating tension and chaos.

The tewo breakway leaders managed to stay clear of the reduced lead group.

On the Rubio launched his srpint but it wasn't enough to beat Schachmann, who got his first victory in a WorldTour race.

Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) arrived in the reduced peloton and retaina the leader's jersey with one stage to go.

In the last stage of the Volta Catalunya it's all about the Alto de Montjuïc. Eight runs on a hilly 6.6 kilometres circuit revolve around the iconic mountain overlooking the city. The stage amounts to 154.8 kilometres
