Richie Porte drops his rivals on the Queen Stage of the Tour de Suisse

Sunweb's Soren Kragh Andersen soloed to victory from the breakaway with a strong performance on the Queen stage of Tour de Suisse

The 186-kilometre route Queen stage included two hors category climbs and a finish on a third category ascent.

The escape of the day was formed by 17 riders  and included Nathan Haas (Katusha-Alpecin), Soren Kragh Andersen (Sunweb), Magnus Cort Nielsen (Astana), Gorka Izagirre (Bahrain-Merida) and Patrick Konrad (Bora-hansgrohe), among others.

Some riders of the front group were dropped by the first brutal climb of the Furka Pass, but made contact again in the descent.

The second climb big climb of the Klausen Pass, was too hard for the breakaway and only 12 remained..

Behind,  BMC controlled the pace of the peloton in order to protect the Yellow Jersey of Richie Porte.

After the  descent of the second climb of the Klausen Pass, only five riders remained in front, including Kragh Andersen and Izagirre. The pack was unable to close the gap and a late attack of Soren Kragh Andersen gave him the stage victory.

Behind, race leader Richie Porte pushed up the pace and only Nairo Quintana (Movistar) could stay on his wheel, with another increase in pace he left everyone else struggling behind.

The Australian rider arrived in the finish line in the sixth position increasing his overall advantage in the General Classification against his rivals.
