The second stage was a 12.7 kilometre race of truth in Venray. 

Time trial specialist Alex Dowsett (Katusha-Alpecin) set the early fastest time of 14 minutes and 30 seconds,

Sunweb's Michael Matthews went faster, but he didn't last long as his teammate Soren Kragh Andersen stopped the clock a second faster.

European time trial champion Yves Campenaerts went faster completing the course in 14 minutes and 25 seconds.

But it was Swiss time trial champion Stefan Küng who was 14 seconds faster than Campenaerts, setting a time that proved impossible to beat.

With the time trial victory, Küng also took over the race lead.

Tomorrow's Stage 3 from Aalter to Antwerpen is 166 km and rosses the border between the Netherlands and Belgium.  Expect a bunch sprint in arrival town Antwerp. The 166 kilometres route features some cobbles but is predominantly flat. The cobbles are nothing compared to the Flemish Classics, though. When the route moves through Sint-Niklaas, after some 75 kilometres, the riders face two short stretches.
