Matej Mohoric wins the Deutschland Tour as Nils Politt takes final sprint

Nils Politt (Katusha-Alpecin) final took a stage victory on the final day of the Deutschland Tour as Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Merida) won overall

The German fell shy of overhauling Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Merida), who finished in second place to win overall by just six seconds ahead of Politt while Maximilian Schachmann (Quick-Step Floors) finished third overall.

Matej Mohoric commented on his today's win in general classification: "Today's win was a team effort and we did our best to control and to stay in front the whole race. In fact, the whole day we rode in front. The breakaway was strong with two really hard time trials and we had to pull out since the start. All of my team-mates did the great job, especially Antonio Nibali, Niccolò Bonifazio and Heinrich Haussler stayed with me till the finish to get a good position before the climbs. I drop a little in the last climb but I manage to catch the group and be back to second place on the sprint what was enough to keep the red jersey. I am super happy for myself and my team!"

Sports Director Tristan Hofmann commented: “I am 200% satisfied. Guys performed very well all days. Today was really hard. Breakaway started very fast with 6 minutes advantage and with other teams we had to work hard all day to catch them. Team-mates helped Matej all days and the result is a great win.”
