Egan Bernal takes over Tour de Suisse Race Lead
Bernal grabbed the leader's jersey on the mountain top finish on the sixth stage as Tolhoek won the stage
Dutch rider Antwan Tolhoek won the stage, finishing just ahead of Bernal. The 25 year old has ridden all three Grand Tours and today's win was his first World Tour stage victory.
Colombian Bernal took over the race lead from three times world champion Peter Sagan.
Team Ineos's Bernal, 22, displayed his potential as the Tour de France favorite, with Froome out and Thomas injured.
"The team worked really hard for me. From my perspective I just finished at full-speed to gain time," Bernal said, "The important thing was the general standings, not the stage," he added."
Bernal finished second, 17 seconds behind Tolhoek, and Frenchman Francois Bidart was third.
The mountain top finish at the resort of Flumserberg splintered the breakaway with Tolhoek, Spaniard Lluis Mas and New Zealander Patrick Bevin in the lead.
Tolhoek dropped Movistar's Mas and Bevin of CCC, behind, with less than five kilometres to go, UAE Emirates' rider Rui Costa joined the pair.
Bernal attacked and passed the trio with as the Colombian attempted to chase down Tolhoek.
Tolhoek crossed the line just ahead of Bernal who took back time on his rivals.
