Lawson Craddock takes over Tour of Utah Lead
Umberto Marengo wins Stage 1 of the Tour of Utah from a late attack
Lawson Craddock reaped revenge on James Piccoli by getting in a late breakaway after the final 1km climb with less than 5 miles to go.
On the final lap of the finishing circuit in North Logan, Piccoli was forced to change bikes and had to battle to get back into the main bunch.
On the final 1km climb, five miles from the finish line, saw Trek Segafredo string the bunch out, which then stalled at the top.
Thomas Revard (Hagens Berman Axeon) attacked and joined breakaway leaders Lorenzo Fortunato (Neri Sottoli-Selle Italia-KTM) and Bernat Font (303 Project).
Two more Neri-Sottoli riders, Umberto Marengo and Sebastian Schönberger joined Lawson Craddock who went on the attack and reeled in the three leaders with Umberto Marengo taking the biggest win of his career.
With a time bonus, Craddock leads the overall ahead of Piccoli by six seconds, with João Almeida (Hagens Berman Axeon) second on the same time.
