Movistar announce one of strongest line-ups for 2019 La Vuelta

Alejandro Valverde, Nairo Quintana, Richard Carapaz and Marc Soler represent the strongest team line up for this year's Spanish Grand Tour

Movistar are fielding a characteristically strong squad for their home Grand Tour, with a powerful cast of climbers, including world champion Alejandro Valverde, Giro d’Italia winner Richard Carapaz, Nairo Quintana and Marc Soler.

The roster for the race will be headlined by two former winners: Alejandro Valverde and Nairo Quintana, as well as by the winner of the 2019 Giro d'Italia, Richard Carapaz.

With rumours of Carapaz switching to Team Ineos next season and Quintana set to leave for Arkéa-Samsic, Valverde would natural team leader.

The squad should give defending champion Promoz Roglic and team Jumbo Visma a run for their money with cards to play in the GC and stage wins, especially in the mountains.

The Spanish team reaches a milestone with its 40th consecutive appearance at La Vuelta.
