Leaks in Spanish newspapers emerge ahead of the official announcement later this month

The 2020 Spanish Grand Tour, reffered to La Vuelta by the organizers, is likely to return to brutal climb of the Angliru, one of the toughest climbs in Spain.

The last time La Veulta crested the Angliru was in 2017 when retiring Alberto Contador won penultimate stage of his final race. 2017 was also the yera Chris Froome won the race but was later failed a drugs test.

It has also been revealed that the Tourmalet could feature in the 2020 Spanish Grand Tour aswell.

The official Vuelta a España route is set to be unveiled on December 17 in Madrid.

The Angliru is one of the toughest climbs in professional cycling, 12.5 kms long with an average gradient of 9.8% and a maximum gradient of 23.5%.

In 2013, a spectacular duel between Chris Horner (RadioShack-Leopard) and Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) on the slopes of the Angliru ended with the American shedding the Italian star and soaring away into the mist for near-certain outright victory in the Vuelta a España.
