Julian Alaphilippe takes the Yellow Jersey after late Attack on Stage 2
Alaphilippe outsprinted breakaway companions Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) and Marc Hirschi (Sunweb) to win his 5th Tour de France stage
Julian Alaphilippe attacked with 13 kilometres to go on the final climb of the Col des Quatre Chemins and was followed by Marc Hirschi (Sunweb).
The peloton lead by Jumbo Visma and Team Ineos failed to close the gap, Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) attacked and joined the two men out front.
The trio arrived together under the Flamme Rouge and Alaphilippe launched a strong sprint that couldn't be matched by the others. Hirschi got close to him in the last metre, but crossed the finish line in the second position, Yates third.
Stage 3 was the first mountain stage and encompassed 3,752 total meters of climbing (12,309 feet), the 1st cat Col de la Colmiane 1500m, the 1st cat Col de Turini 1607m, the 2nd cat Col d'Eze 490m and the uncategorized Col des Quatre Chemins 338m some 13km before the finish line.

Anthony Perez (Cofidis) fought for the KOM points with Benoît Cosnefroy (AG2R-La Mondiale), they both had 18 points as the breakaway was reeled in before the penultimate climb of the Col d'Eze that saw no attacks.
Kristoff, the Yellow Jersey wearer was dropped by the peloton on the breathtaking climb of the 1st category Col du Turini.
“It’s a very special emotion to win this stage of the Tour,” Alaphilippe said. “It’s a very particular year. I worked really hard. I kept serious. I’m very very happy to win today. I just don’t have any words.”
