French celebrate as Nan Peters wins first Pyrenean Stage

Nans Peters (AG2R La Mondiale) won stage 8 of the Tour de France, soloing to the finish in Loudenvielle. Adam Yates clings onto the Yellow Jersey.

Nans Peters (AG2R La Mondiale) proved he was the strongest man of a 13-rider breakaway of the day.

Peters went solo on the descent of the Port de Balès and rode the Col de Peyresourde alone to claim his second Grand Tour stage victory.

Peters folowed Zakarin's attack on the climb of Port de Balès, Zakarin couldn't keep up with the Frenchman on the descent.

The biggest news of the day was Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) getting dropped on the final climb, still in pain from his previous crash.

Roglic ran out of riders as Jumbo Visma upped the pace on the final big climb of the Col de Peyresourde. Sepp Kuss pulled over leaving Bennett and Dumoulin. Bennett pulled over and Dumoulin increased then pace for a few kms and pulled over too.

Adam Yates was under pressure the most during the stage.

It was Pogacar who attacked taking Roglic and Quintana with him. Behind, Bernal and Uran organized a chase and Yates was dropped. Uran brought the rest of the favorites back to the trio and the pace dropped and Yates managed to bridge across.

Pogocar attacked again and no one countered.

Port and Landa attacked the Roglic group.

Frenchman Guillaume Martin attacked, much to the delight of the thousands of French and Basque fans who walked or climbed up the mountain, no cars allowed during the pandemic.

Roglic and Quintana bridged across. 

Quintana attacked and Roglic followed, leaaving Porte, Landa, Roglic and Quintana chasing Pogacar.

On the descent, another frenchman Bardet attacked to huge applaud, Yates had to chase to keep the Yellow Jersey.

The favorites finished in a group behind Bardet.

Tomorrow's 9th stage is the second day of brutal climbing day in the Pyrenees takes in the Col de la Hource`re, the Col de Soudet, for the seventh time since the beginning of the Tour, the riders will ride at an altitude of over 1,500m. They will then battle it out on the extremely steep climb up to the Col de Marie Blanque before heading back down to Laruns.
