ATB Financial Gran Fondo Highwood Pass

July 09 2016
Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada

Gran Fondo Highwood Pass leads riders along Canada’s most spectacular paved road, Alberta Highway 40, the road that travels up and over Highwood Pass, the highest pass in the Canadian Rockies.

Nothing compares to the majestic Canadian Rockies and by taking riders through and over these jutted giants, we’re going to provide participants with an epic experience that would be near-impossible without support from our expert organization. Riders are likely to see elk and deer grazing nearby, moose meandering about, big horn sheep, and possibly even bear during Gran Fondo Highwood Pass.

In addition to taking you over Highwood Pass, this fondo leads you through Kananaskis Country, a truly spectacular tract of public land offering unparalleled views of the mountains and surrounding foothills.  Loocated west of Calgary, Kananaskis Country is renowned for its recreation and tourism. Home to 10 provincial parks and one ecological reserve, Kananaskis Country is picture perfect! You may remember that Nakiska, located within Kananaskis Country, hosted the 1988 alpine skiing and freestyle moguls competitions.

And you can take comfort in knowing that Gran Fondo Highwood Pass is run by one of North America’s most experienced organizers of epic cycling events, TransRockies Events. TRE has been running events like this for over a decade and has utilized Highwood Pass on other occasions, always routing rides for maximum safety and enjoyment.

This 147 km ride through the Canadian Rockies and Kananaskis Country is fully supported. We stock each checkpoint with tons of healthy food to help you replenish spent energy. We even throw in a little junk food, just because we like you! And if that wasn’t enough, we provide roving SAG support, mechanical support, an experienced TransRockies medical team, and a crazy little post-race party at the finish!

And once again, we’ve limited Gran Fondo Highwood Pass to an exclusive limited field of 600 riders. This ride will fill up fast! We still have spots open, but don’t wait too long because the suffering of missing out will be far worse than the efforts you’ll make to climb Highwood Pass.
