Pacific Coast 100

Pacific Coast 100

September 07 2019
Irvine, California, USA

Come out and join your fellow cyclists in the most scenic biking event down the Southern California Coast! This is 100 miles of amazing road riding from Irvine to Torrey Pines over flat to rolling terrain with approximately 3200’ of elevation gain. We have added a metric (62 miles) century this year riding straight to Carlsbad.

The day begins in the cool early morning through the flat lands of Irvine before a short climb up to Portola and then heading south. You’ll pedal through the rolling hills of Lake Forest and Mission Viejo on your way to rest stop #1 in San Juan Capistrano.

You’ll continue south to Capistrano Beach and along Pacific Coast Highway with the ocean on your right and a nice flat stretch into San Clemente. The route then takes you through San Clemente to the bike trail, Old Pacific Coast Highway past the San Onofre Plant and through the State Park. The last section of the bike trail is on the very smooth and fast concrete runway, ending up at rest stop #2 at Las Pulgas Rd.

After topping off your water bottles and refueling with some light snacks, you will turn right and enter the Freeway for a fast & smooth 8 miles.  This section is an approved bike route riding on a newly paved & swept surface that is 8 feet wide.  After exiting on Harbor Drive into Oceanside, you’ll be stopping at rest stop #3, Buccaneer Park for more refreshments and cold water or Gatorade.  If you are doing the century, do not dilly dally here because you still have 40 miles to go, including a little rise in the road called the Torrey Pines Grade. (If you are doing the metric, you will then head towards the finish in Carlsbad.)

This next section is probably the most scenic riding with the cool breeze and views of the Pacific Ocean through the beach cities of Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar. Leaving Del Mar you are approaching the last major climb up Torrey Pines Grade. Be sure to smile for the PhotoCrazy photo opportunity and enjoy the cold popsicle at the top! You've earned it!

You will then make a U turn down Torrey Pines and back towards Carlsbad.  You will be greeted with a medal, music, food and refreshments as you celebrate in Rouleur Beer Garden. Cheers! Your 1st beer and the souvenir glass is on us!

Your bike will be safely transported back to Irvine.  When you are ready, you will catch a luxury bus with your friends back to Irvine.
