Mountains to the Desert Bike Ride

Mountains to the Desert Bike Ride

September 23 2017
Telluride, Colorado USA
Each year, the Mountains to the Desert Bike Ride serves as the single fundraising event for the Just For Kids Foundation. We encourage you to help by fundraising this year! Every dollar raised through participant fundraising before and during the ride is matched dollar for dollar by the Carstens Family Fund at the Denver Foundation. That money is then awarded to individuals and organizations that provide leadership opportunities for regional youth as well as organizations that promote self-sufficiency and responsibility.

Over the past ten years, the Just For Kids Foundation is proud to have raised over $2 Million; all of which has been awarded to hundreds of organizations benefitting thousands of underprivileged children. Help us meet our goal of raising $125,000 for youth in the San Miguel Watershed this year!
For every $500 raised for the Just For Kids Foundation, fundraisers will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win many amazing prizes including the grand prize, a custom-built, handcrafted MOOTS road or mountain bike, and $25 off their registration fee (the more $ you raise, the more raffle tickets you receive for a chance to win)! Individuals that fundraise the most money for the Just For Kids Foundation will be awarded top secret gifts at the awards ceremony. We hope you will consider helping us fundraise this year and a big thanks from the Just For Kids Foundation!! DONATE HERE or during your registration for the ride.

Cyclists starting in downtown Telluride will take off at 7 a.m. on a precipitous descent past towering 14,000-foot peaks and hillsides of golden quaking aspens. A short but steep climb at mile 28.5 crests into the wide-open farmlands of Norwood, where riders choosing shorter distances will start at 8 a.m.

Four miles past the town of Naturita, Gran Fondo riders can choose to add a 20 mile loop up Calamity Ridge, through the town of Nucla and back to Naturita. Winding further along the Unaweep/Tabeguache Scenic and Historic Byway, the route passes through millions of years of geologic record as riders find themselves at the base of striated sandstone cliffs reaching up to 1,000 feet overhead.

Participants can choose either to end their rides upon their arrival to Gateway or pass through and turn northeast up the Unaweep Canyon, adding on a punishing 15-mile climb to the event’s summit and then descending back into Gateway for the traditionally competitive M2D Summit Climb Ride. The top three female and top three male riders to reach the M2D summit will receive prizes.

All rides will culminate with a finish line party complete with tasty food options, beer, and live music at this year's new finish The Gateway Community Center, located less than one hour southwest of Grand Junction.
