The Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo, the "Friendliest Fondo", is a nonprofit event sponsored by Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club.

A  "Single Loop Course", beginning and finishing at the beautiful 5 Star St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino, riders are treated to spectacular scenery at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.  The event has three course options:  Gran Fondo,  152 kms, 1303 metres elevation gain,  Medio Fondo, 102 kms,  685 metres elevation and a Piccolo Fondo of 58 kms, 355 metres elevation.

John Woodsen, aclaimed Bucket List Rider writes;

The Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club with all the partner organizations and volunteers knocked it out of the park today - a Gran Slam.  The Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo is a crown jewel on the Canadian Gran Fondo circuit.  Without a doubt, it is bucket list worthy.

The Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club is proud to partner with Selkirk Signs as our Title Sponsor.  Our goal is to provide cyclists  a world class Fondo, attract tourists to our region, and raise funds for local charitable endeavors. The 26 km Northstar Rails to Trails dedicated cycling path that connects Cranbrook & Kimberley is an annual recipient of a portion of the event proceeds. Other funds support community service projects in our area. We are committed to using local suppliers and businesses to benefit our community.

Gran Fondo

At the Hwy 95A/Hwy93 Junction riders turn south crossing the Kootenay River (2nd Aid Station km) riding to Historic Ft. Steele (3rd Aid Station), before turning east on Bull River Road. Crossing the Bull River riders’ travel 25 km to the Fish Hatchery (4th Aid Station and turn around) beneath the majestic Rocky Mountains before returning to Ft. Steele. Turning south on 93A and then right at Hwy 3 to reconnect with Hwy 95A to Mission Road for the final ride to the St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino.
