RAS Adventure Ride

June 30 2018
Peru, Vermont, USA

Two years ago I got the inspiration for this ride from the Vermont Overland.  The ride begins out of my home town of Peru, Vermont at 9am and as many people who road the first year can attest to, this covers some of the most scenic gravel and Class IV roads in Southern VT.  I started this endeavor a year ago as a passionate cyclist with a cause.  Searching for answers, research dollars, educating myself as well as others is one of my top priorities for my youngest son Shane has a rare genetic disease.  So if you too are passionate about something; enjoy strong community and friends, do things with a purpose, love to ride and are excited about a new challenge, this might be the perfect fit!

The ride will travel through some of the most beautiful paved and dirt roads, pastures, and wooded areas and arrive back in Peru after about 40 miles.  We will start and finish right in the heart of Peru at the Hapgood General Store.

There we will celebrate your hard work with a beverage and a excellent selection of home cooked grub!  So sign up soon!!  Click the BikeReg link below to register or to make a donation as a non-rider:

As far as the ride goes I would recommend a cross, gravel, mountain or road bike.  If you are an experienced rider to these type of events a road bike with 25- 28 cc tires will work fine, if not, a cyclocross or mtb might be the better option.  There are only a few short sections some riders may want to dismount and walk or jog along.  Expect some good ups and downs throughout the course, and about 3556 vertical feet of climbing throughout a 37 mile course.  You can go at your pace; race it with the lead group in under 2:22 or take it easy and still get back for lunch.  This is not a super long event but don’t be fooled, it is difficult, plenty of options; like the sustained 5 mile climb up Moses Pond or the 21% 900 meter climb up Johnson Hill Road will bring on some pain.  In 2016, we’ll add a class VI section in Landgrove off of “Buffman Hill”.

Please bring your own nutrition for the ride as we will only have 1 water/ aid station at the halfway point.  For all participants there will be a fabulous raffle with donated items from the sponsors below immediately follow the completion of the event.

A SAG wagon will be bringing up the rear in case of any major issues but an extra tire and tube is recommended.  Please obey all the rules of the road, intersections, stop signs and especially the downhill gravel sections.  There is fair amount of up and down so stay focused on the road ahead of you.  All turns will be marked with a green arrow or road paint.
