Gran Fondo Stelvio Santini with Italy Bike Tours

2017 Gran Fondo Stelvio Santini

June 08 - June 12 2017
Bormio, Italy

Italy Bike Tours are delighted to offer clients the chance to take part in the 2017 Gran Fondo Stelvio Santani. We have a limited amount of reserved places on this trip (including entry). The Stelvio Santani needs no introduction to cycling enthusiasts, indeed last year over 50 different nationalities took part in an event that once again took in the beauty and the beast of the Italian Alps.

With 3 routes to choose from, you are sure to find challenge and exhilaration to suit your riding ability. The longer route includes the Mortirolo and the Stelvio which are two of the most brutal yet beautiful climbs in the world: they echo with the feats of Fausto Coppi, Marco Pantani and many more. Now for the fifth year, the Gran Fondo Stelvio Santini will allow you to test yourself against these legendary tough climbs and follow in the pedal strokes of some of the greatest icons cycling has ever known.

Our packages allow you to focus on your riding and enjoying yourself. With hassle free transfers, entry, mechanics and expert race tactics this package is for the rider who wants to get the most of their weekend in Italy.

The Mortirolo and the Stelvio are two of the most beautiful climbs in the world that echo with the feats of Fausto Coppi and Marco Pantani. Last year’s Giro d’Italia saw a single stage take in both of these legendary climbs for one of the most brutal stages of the race. Now for the fourth time time, the Grandondo Stelvio Santini will allow you to pit yourself against these legendary climbs and follow in the pedal strokes of some of the greatest icons cycling has ever known.

There are three routes on offer, including the addition of a new 60km and 1950m of climbing short route to compliment the medium and long routes. Riders will each receive a Granfondo Stelvio Santini cycling jersey – made in Italy by Santini Maglificio Sportivo – as part of their race pack. If you conquer the Stelvio and complete the Granfondo, you will also receive an exclusive ‘finishers only’ ImadelT cap!

Thursday 8th June 2017

You will be picked up from either Milan Linate or Milan Bergamo airport and privately transferred to your hotel in Bormio by the Italy Bike Tours team. A quick stop for coffee by Lake Iseo will break up the journey and give you a chance to take a few pics of this beautiful lake.
On arrival you will be met by the hotel staff and are sure to have a traditional Italian welcome. The evening will be spent sorting the bikes and eating a fantastic dinner prepared by the excellent kitchen staff.

Friday 9th June 2017

After breakfast we will take you on a short guided ride to get the legs stretched and check out some of the route. This is always worth doing and popular with guests. Led by our expert guides we will be sure to stop on route to have a coffee and a brioche.
In the afternoon one of the team will take you to the registration area to collect your bibs, race number and race pack. We like to do this on Friday, as Saturday can be a little hectic.

The evening will be spent relaxing in the hotel and enjoying local food and maybe a few beers?

Saturday 10th June 2017

A day to relax and put your feet up. The team will be in place to check the bikes and make any adjustments if needed. We like to keep the day before the GF flexible. Some clients may wish to visit the Expo others may like to have a sport’s massage or visit the spa.
We do recommend however that all clients attend the race briefing in the main piazza at 17:30. The information given at the briefing will help maximize your enjoyment of the event.
Whatever you wish to do, the Italy Bike Tours team will be in place to help assist you and make it happen.

Sunday 11th June 2017

After an early breakfast (including everything you need to fuel up for the big event), we will guide you to the start line and ensure there are no last minute problems.
The team will be in place around the course to hand out water bottles, gels and anything else you may like to drop off or collect.
On arrival at the finish you will have time to relax before descending to Bormio and the hotel. The evening will be spent relaxing, having a celebratory drink or three and reminiscing about what is sure to be an epic weekend of riding and cycling fellowship.
