Gran Fondo Felice Gimondi-Bianchi with Italy Bike Tours

2017 Gran Fondo Felice Gimondi

May 05 - May 08 2017
Bergamo, Italy

Felice Gimondi is the first and arguably the best organised of the Italy’s Gran Fondo programmes. It has a special place in Italy Bike Tours’ heart as it is on the door step of our base on Lake Iseo. If you ride a Bianchi or are interested in Italian cycling history this is definitely the grand fondo for you.

There are three choices of routes and all of the routes include the Colle del Calto (7.5km at an average 6%) and Selvino (12.2km at an average of 5.1%). More details of the routes can be found below. With its close proximity to Milan Bergamo Airport, a hub for Ryanair, the Felice Gimondi has become more and more popular with the UK market. Last year 3000 athletes took part in brilliant weather.

We offer a comprehensive package that will help make this a fantastic long weekend in Italy. No need to worry about hotel hassle, Italian taxis or being in the right place at the right time. Our professional team are here to support you and make sure the weekend goes smoothly and you can focus on enjoying your cycling. The initinery includes first class hotels, private airport transfers and the added bonus of some beautiful guided rides prior to the gran fondo that will make you the envy of your cycling friends.

Itinerary

Friday 5th May – Day 1

Our team will meet you at the arrival gates at Milan Bergamo before transferring you to your hotel on Lago d’Iseo. Our professional team of mechanics will assemble your bikes or help assist you with any hired bikes. Having a professional on hand with spare parts and an eye for detail will help any problems further down the road! In the evening we will head out for a pizza in a local pizzeria and maybe the odd glass of wine?

Saturday 6th May – Day 2

The hotel will lay on another delicious breakfast for you before we head off to Bergamo and have a look around the exhibition and tented cycling village that accompanies the Feice Gimondi Gran Fondo. Here you will find an array of stalls and gazebos with all the latest bikes, clothing and technical stuff that cyclists so enjoy looking at and although not being able to buy! Your Italy Bike Tours professional will help you with the registration process, chip collecting and be around to show you where the start line is for the next morning.

In the afternoon your guide will then take you on a spin around the local area to familiarise you with the first and last 10 kilometres of the ride. The evening will be spent with your feet up relaxing while our mechanics do their last minute checks on your bikes. The hotel will lay on a specific meal for you that involves, pasta, pasta and a little more pasta should you wish. An early night awaits and hopefully a restful sleep before the main event!

Sunday 7th May – Day 3

Race Day! And it is an early start for you as we head over to Bergamo and ride to the start line. No need to worry about getting lost as your Italy Bike Tours professional will be on hand to get you to the start line in good time. The team will then be waiting for you at the finish line with a cold drink and replenishing  energy bar or two. Thrilled by your achievement there will be plenty of time to chat to other riders and share stories over lunch in the cycling village. Unlike those staying in Bergamo you will then go back to your beautiful hotel overlooking Lago d’Iseo and enjoy the peace and tranquility away from the busy city. Our celebratory meal will once again be in the hotel before heading out into town for some post event celebratory drinks.

Monday 8th May – Day 4

Sadly the day of your departure. Your bike will be packed up ready for your flight home and we will transfer you to Milan Bergamo. A great long weekend. Well deserved. And providing lasting memories.
