Cyclists of all abilities are invited to the beautiful St. Croix River Valley to participate in the First Annual Gran Fondo on Sunday, August 13, 2017. The event will begin and end at Pioneer Park located on the bluffs overlooking downtown Stillwater, Minn. All proceeds will benefit youth cycling in the Saint Croix River Valley.

“We are excited to host our first-ever Gran Fondo just east of the Twin Cities,” said Katie Brekke, Chilkoot Gran Fondo event director. “It’s a perfect setting for the most breathtaking cycling routes along the Saint Croix. We are looking forward to a fun event for both serious cyclists and leisure riders.”

There are four adult rides of varying distances, and a ride for children under age 10. Following the rides there will be music and food for purchase from Chilkoot Cafe from 12 to 3 p.m.

100 miles | Chilkoot Gran Fondo: The ultimate challenge. Meandering along several of the local lakeshores. Ride features rolling hills and several firm gravel sections.

60 miles | Chilkoot Midi Fondo: Rolling hills, scenic countryside, including the Gateway Trail and the infamous Nason Hill out of Marine on Saint Croix.

20 miles | Chilkoot Mini Fondo: A shortened version of the 60-mile route.

12 miles | Chilkoot Micro Fondo: Except for the first mile on 2nd Street, this ride is completely contained on Brown’s Creek. A gradual two-mile climb out of Stillwater, crossing several minor roads, until the Duluth Junction at the Gateway Trail intersection, where riders return on a very picturesque and gradual downhill into downtown Stillwater. [PENDING MN DNR APPROVAL]

0.25 mile | Chilkoot Miniscule Fondo: For children 10 and under who do not want to miss out on the action, check out the playground in Pioneer Park and participate in the children’s ride at 12 p.m.
