Slicks and Stones 100

Slicks and Stones 100

January 25 2020
Manawatu Region, New Zealand

The Gravel and Tar Events, including the Slicks and Stones 100 sportif will be on Saturday, January 19th.

The headline events, the Gravel and Tar Classic and the Gravel and Tar La Femme will attract mens and womens professional riders and teams from all over the world who have travelled to Australia and New Zealand seeking UCI points early in the season.  It's expected New Zealand's best trade teams  will participate again, but they will be hard pressed against Australian Trade and Continental teams such as Mobius Bridgelane and AMR Renault, and a raft of other Asian-based teams.

The Slicks and Stones 100 provides and opportunity for non-professional/elite local (NZ) riders, and visitors from overseas, the opportunity to race on much of the same course as the UCI races. The Slicks and Stones is open to riders of all ages, levels and genders.  It is not a race, so you can participate without a cycling licence.  However, it is a fairly tough course, taking in most of the gravel sectors of the UCI races, so a reasonable level of cycling fitness is required.

The event starts in the township of Feilding and finishes in the city of Palmerston North.  So riders will need to either get a lift to Feilding for the start, or ride the 20 km to Feilding from Palmerston North in the morning before the event, making sure that they are in Feilding by around 8 am for registration (and time for a coffee!).

Please see www.gravelandtar.com for up to date information and to enter online.
