Strade Bianche Gran Fondo

March 07 - March 11 2019
Siena, Tuscany, Italy

Sunday, 10th March 2019: our “Boutique Cycling Experience Collections” calendar starts off the year with a bang!  And a new event that we are excited to share with you.

The Strade Bianche is a unique Granfondo, famous for its hilly, white (unpaved/gravel)  roads, the same roads that make up the famous Strade Bianche Eroica Pro bike race. These unpaved sections are characterised by uneven road surfaces and white gravel, that give a unique feel to the ride, and give the cyclist a memorable challenge.

The white gravel roads, common throughout the picturesque Tuscan countryside, provide the unique character of the race. The roads are usually country lanes and farm tracks, called strade bianche or sterrati in Italian, twisting through the hills and vineyards of the Chianti region.

The sportive edition has grown tremendously and in 2018 there were 5000 participants, one of whom was Nicola! He enjoyed the event so much that for 2019, we want to share this experience with you!

Strade Bianche Gran Fondo with Garda Bike Hotel

Dates

This is a 4 nights (minimum) package, which includes:

• 4 nights in Siena, Tuscany, from Thursday 07th March to Monday 11th March 2019
• you can extend your stay with 1 or more nights at Lake Garda, either before or after the Granfondo

This is a suggested itinerary for the Tuscany component of the trip:

07th March (Thursday)

In the morning, an easy ride in the Lake Garda area. In the afternoon, transfer from Peschiera del Garda to Tuscany. In the evening there will be a special dinner with a PRO Team.

NB: if you are landing in Italy on the 07th, we suggest arriving at Peschiera del Garda before 1 pm in order to join the collective transfer from Garda Bike Hotel to Siena.?

08th March (Friday)

We’ll try the ride of the Granfondo, a twisty and undulating course, with no long climbs but with punchy hills, most significantly on the unpaved parts. We’ll ride at an easy pace to enjoy the beautiful route with its hills and ancient buildings.  We will stop for photos and get familiar with the challenging climbs. We will be supported by our van and our driver/mechanic.

09th March (Saturday)

In the morning, we’ll watch the PRO’s riding the Europe's most southern Northern Classic
In the afternoon, we’ll visit a beautiful winery, famous for its connection to cycling: the owner Paolo Bianchini was a champion cyclist and now he’s a winning winemaker.

Then we will pick up our Gran Fondo welcome bag (Rider bag and ride number).

10th March (Sunday)

This is the day of our “Granfondo Strade Bianche”  Riders can choose between two routes – a long course of 139km, featuring 31.4km of gravel, or s shorter option at 86.6km with 21.6km of white roads. After completing the Granfondo, we’ll enjoy the complementary pasta party while you share your ride triumphs and experiences. In the evening, we’ll have a special Gala dinner to celebrate the the end of this experience

11th March (Monday)

After breakfast, we’ll return to Verona and Lake Garda

Dolce Vita Style

It will be unforgettable, not only because of the unique character of the roads, but because we’ll be bringing our “Dolce Vita” experience to Tuscany.   We’ll stay in medieval Siena, with its gothic archways, towers  and the famous Piazza del Campo that is the focal point and heart of the city.  We’ll spend 4 days  exploring both Siena, with its 17 contrades, or districts, as well as the amazing Tuscan hills, dotted with the distinct look of cypress trees. And because Tuscany is so well known for its Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di  Montepulciano and many other wine varieties, you can be sure we’ll taste the local wine. We’ll dine on Tuscan specialties, like Ribollita ( a hearty Tuscan soup)  and Bistecca alla Fiorentina (a mouthwatering steak, grilled to perfection). You’ve heard about Tuscany and you’ve seen the pictures...now you’ll spend 4 days immersed in the tastes, scents and beauty of Tuscany, as well as ride the Classic Strade Bianche.
