The Open Range Gravel Race presented by Legends Pub and Grille is an ultra-endurance bicycle race through a remote and rugged area of the state.  Start time for the 200k race is 8am and there will be a 12 hour cutoff.  The distance for the 200k will be between 125 - 132 miles. If you don't think you can maintian an 11 mph average, please feel free to sign up for the 100k race.  The 100k is a non-competitive ride starting at 8:20am.  We are looking forward to seeing you in Pratt on April 27th!

We had over 280 people register for our inagural race in 2018.  The average finisher pace for the 200k was over 14mph.  We expect the 2019 race to max out so register early.  This is a great race located perfectly between Land Run and Dirty Kanza.

There is a drop bag service available free to riders. Bring your nutrition in a clearly marked bag and we'll move it to the checkpoint(s).  We will have water, Hammer, and nutritional products available at our checkpoints.

While we do allow transfers up to registration close, we do not allow refunds for race fees.  If you think you might need a refund, we suggest the race insurance provided through BikeReg.  Proceeds from Open Range go to local non-profit.

The 200k course will be approximately 126-130 miles.  The 100k course will be approximately 63-70 miles.  The course is mostly sand packed, gravel, dirt, pavement, and brick roads.  The official route will be posted at least 2 weeks before race date.

Open Range 200k  is an ultra endurance cycle race through South Central Kansas.

?This race takes place in the rugged and remote Gyp Hills of Southern Kansas.  Named after the layers of gypsum that form the hills, the Gyp Hills (or Red Hills) are located in one of the most isolated regions in the state.  For part of this course, you will follow the Medicine Lodge River and it’s tributaries. The Medicine River was so named by the Native Americans who found renewal in the river due to the large concentration of Epsom salts.

This 200k Gravel Grinder will take you through a part of America many thought extinct at the turn of the 20th Century.  The race begins in Pratt, KS, "Gateway to the High Plains".  From there you’ll head south on a mixture of dirt, sand packed, and paved roads toward the small town of Sun City.  From Sun City you'll enter the Heart of the Gyp Hills on a mixture of public and private ground.  Thanks to the Alexander Ranch, the Gyp Hills Guest Ranch and some of their neighbors, you will see parts of the Gyp Hills not available to the public.  Next you will enter the historic town of Medicine Lodge and their brick-lined Main Street.  Medicine Lodge was the host to a historic Peace Treaty between the US govt. and the Plains Indians.  It was also home to the of ax-wielding temperance leader, Carry Nation.  After Medicine Lodge you'll exit the Gyp Hills and enter the High Plains riding past a large windmill farm on your way back to Pratt.  On the 200k course, you'll find nearly 4000' of climbing.

The 200k will start at 8am and the 100k route will start at 8:20am.  The non-competitive 100k will also start in Pratt and provide riders a chance to ride to Sun City and back to Pratt.  It will be a great course for those newer to the sport or riders who want a good spring tuneup.  Don't get us wrong, it will still be a challenge.  Riders will encounter paved and unpaved roads along the route.  Chip timing provided to both races.
