Tour de Campeche

June 09 - June 10 2018
Campeche, Mexico

Tour de Campeche is a new event in Mexico held in the beautiful city of Campeche with a 24km time trial on Saturday in the historic city center and a 130km road race on Sunday on fully closed flat roads.

The individual and team time trial is along the Malecón in Campeche. The direction is counter clockwise. It is a route of 21 km mainly flat, but with a very high humidity and usually no wind. The race consists of two full laps around The Malecón, starting from the beautiful Puerta del Mar, one of the architectural icons of the city and It will finish in the Puerta’s square. The platform will be placed within the area of the walled city, which makes it a unique place to start our journey. In addition, throughout this journey all the riders will have the support of the spectators. Riders will need to think about the depth of rim used on their front wheels. Rear disc wheels and time trial bikes are most definitely recommended on this course.

In 2017 the 130km Tour de Campeche starts in "El Malecón" (The Pier) of Campeche. The course takes riders through the pier, along a breathtaking stretch of the Gulf of Mexico, before finishing in front of the Puerta de Mar. Tour de Campeche is one of the few events on the Mexican cycling calendar that provides the safe and unique experience of riding on a fully closed road. Coupled with a compulsory online safety briefing for all riders, Tour de Campeche aims to be the safest event in Mexico. The heat, terrain and sensational scenery of the Gulf of Mexico makes for a challenging ride and the ideal location for a road race like this. The route of the Tour de Campeche is mainly flat. However, it is not an easy route. Humidity and heat are important factors to consider. Between kilometers 69 and 124 there're a series of ups and downs that undermine the forces of cyclists. At kilometer 120 it reaches the highest altitude to conquer, a port of 96 meters above sea level. The route tarmac is in very good condition. Along the route there are plantations of trees of fine wood, sugarcane, among others.
